Named after one of the founders of the British Communist Party the Tom Mann Centuria was formed by British volunteers in 1936 who went to Barcelona to support the Spanish Popular Front government against Franco's Fascists. In October 1936 the Tom Mann Centuria was joned by thousands of other anti-fascist volunteers from around the world who formed the International Brigade.
