HALF-PRICE BOOK A PEOPLE'S HISTORY OF THE RUSSIAN REVOLUTION WITH YOUR T-SHIRT
Our abstract design is based on an original drawing by Antonina Sofronova of 1922. The revolution had opened the door to new possibilities, and artists rallied to visualise this moment of such intense hope. Antonina, best known as a landscape artist, joined this movement to experiment with abstract geometric design, constructivism, which came to symbolise the building of a Communist society. This unprecedented period of optimistic invention lasted until the early 1930s, finally crushed by the disastrous descent into Stalinist dictatorship. Despite its eclipse, we celebrate the idealism and unrealised potential of art's revolutionary impulse.
