"In affectionate remembrance of Australian Cricket which died at Trent Bridge on 8th August 2015. Deeply lamented by a large circle of sorrowing friends and acquaintances. NB The body will be cremated and the ashes retained in England."
In 1882 The Ashes acquired its name, and quite possibly the strangest trophy - the liittle urn - in world sport, via a spoof obituary for the death of English cricket. This followed England's humiliating defeat at the hands of Australia. We celebrate the 08.08.2015 England's innings defeat of the Aussies by returning the 'compliment', counter-intuitively in the Aussie colours of green and gold, neat. The Ashes? Already back home via a quite stunning victory with one more Test to come.
