Sleeveprint: Fighting for Freedom South East Asia 1940-45
In September 1940 Imperial Japan invaded French Indochina and the South-East Asia campaign of World War Two commenced, ending on VJ Day 15 August 1945. Battles raged across Hong Kong and mainland China, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Malaya and Burma on the border with India.
Our design features the flag of the Viet Minh, an armed Vietnamese resistance movement formed in 1941 to defeat the Japanese occupation of their country. The Viet MInh campaign was crucial to the eventual defeat of Japan yet after liberation French imperial rule was reimposed, the Viet Minh had to fight again for their freedom, and after US troops intervened once more until a free and independent Vietnam was finally established in 1975
