'We serve neither King nor Kaiser but Ireland' was a banner hung outside Dublin's Liberty Hall, Headquarters of the Irish Transport and General Workers Union, at the outbreak of the First World War. The conflict of loyalties, Irish independence versus those Irishmen who gave their lives in the trenches of northern France 1914-18 remains one of the most painful legacies of the Easter Rising. During the Easter rebellion, in one particularly horrific German gas attack on the Western Front, 570 Irishmen lost their lives.

Our centenary design employs the original slogan to create a modern version, for peace against war.
