"Type 300 Prototype K5054 75th Anniversary / 5 March 1936 - 5 March 2011" Spitfire 75

5 March 1936, the first Supermarine Type 300 prototype took its maiden flight from Eastleigh Aerodrome (now known as Southampton Airport). K5054 was the Air Ministry registration given to this history-making plane. Just four years later, years marked by Chamberlain's appeasement of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, The Spitfire flew alongside The Hurricane to produce 'the few' to whom so many owe so much to, our freedom.
