Cambrai 1917

Sleeve Print :Somme, Ancre, Arras, Messines, 3rd Ypres, Cambrai 1917

20th November 1917. After British troops breached the Hindenburg Line the Germans responded with their biggest attack since 1914. A year before the armistice marked each year on Remembrance Sunday Cambrai was the decisive point ahead of the end of this most bloody of conflicts. But Cambrai was special too with the first ever large-scale deployment of tanks. Our unique design feaures an original roundel created by Philosophy Football's Hugh Tisdale using the colours of the Tank Corps flag famously adopted on the eve of the battle by their commander, General Elles and flown from his tank 'Hilda' when he led the tanks into battle.

The sleeve lists the Corps' early battle hours before the first ever large scale deployment of their tanks at Cambrai in 1917.
