Our Highway 61 Revisited design is inspired by the 1965 song and album of the same name. Dylan named it after one of the great North American arteries, which connected his birthplace in Duluth, Minnesota, to southern cities famed for their musical heritage, including St. Louis, Memphis, and New Orleans.
2011 was Dylan's seventieth year. Our anniversary shirts celebrate the Dylan of the sixties, when Bob was a voice of the civil rights movement, his songs a vital part of a global revolt from Prague to Berkeley. In the words of Mike Marqusee writer on Dylan, his music 'still asks demanding question of anyone who wants to change society'. What we're not celebrating is Dylan now playing gigs in Israel and China, renting out his music to advertise everything from upmarket underwear to Cadillacs, trading on his magnificent back catalogue without any of the anger and idealism that inspired him back then.
