Robert Tressell is the author of the inspirational socialist novel The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists. Adapted from a design by Megan Dobney we have came up with a 'paintbrush and sickle' as a tribute to Tressell in the centenary year of his death. In the style of our Russian Revolution plates our original design is reminiscent of the Lissitzky's 'Red Wedge' while combining the tool of the painting and decorating trade with a joyous socialism of the 'painting the town red' variety.
